Laptizo’s recommendation
Let's start with the most important question.
Your Laptop Has 8GB RAM. Should You Upgrade to 16GB?
Your laptop was working fine a few years ago. But now, things feel different.
You open Chrome with several tabs. Then you launch Excel or VS Code. Suddenly, switching between programs takes longer.
You start wondering whether it's time for a new laptop.
But hold on.
You might not need a new laptop. You might just need more RAM.
RAM is the short-term memory your laptop uses while running programs. When there isn't enough of it, your laptop has to move more data between RAM and storage, which can make everything feel slower.
Adding RAM gives your laptop more room to keep applications open.
But there's a catch.
So, before buying anything, let's look at the prices.
Laptop RAM Prices in Pakistan — October 2026
We checked laptop RAM listings from ZAH Computers, PlayTech, Mustafa Computers, and CZone. We focused on SO-DIMM memory, the type commonly used in laptops with replaceable DDR4 or DDR5 memory.
The tables below show the retailer's displayed amount, a direct product link, the listing-check date, and any important price or availability qualification.
These prices are for selected new retail modules, not used or pulled memory, trade-in deals, or a laptop retailer's bundled upgrade. Product configurator upgrades on Laptizo can be separate estimates; obtain a seller quote for the actual configuration and condition.
8GB DDR4 Laptop RAM Prices
If your laptop has 8GB RAM and an empty compatible memory slot, adding another 8GB module may be the cheapest way to reach 16GB.
| RAM | Store | Displayed price | Listing checked | Price / stock note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HIKSEMI Hiker 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (opens in a new tab) | ZAH Computers | Rs. 16,500 | Listed in stock — confirm current price and quantity | |
| Lexar 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (opens in a new tab) | CZone | Rs. 17,000 | Listed in stock — confirm current price and quantity | |
| ADATA Premier 8GB DDR4 3200MHz (opens in a new tab) | PlayTech | Rs. 17,999 | Confirm price, stock, and module/kit quantity |
The price difference between these examples is fairly small. For most buyers, compatibility and warranty should matter more than saving a few hundred rupees.
16GB DDR4 Laptop RAM Prices
If your laptop has a single 8GB module and no empty slot, you may need to replace it with a compatible 16GB module.
Here are the displayed prices we found.

How Much Will Your Actual RAM Upgrade Cost?
The price depends on how much RAM you already have and whether your laptop has an empty slot.
Let's look at three common situations.
Situation 1: You Have 8GB RAM and Want 16GB
This is probably the most common upgrade.
If your laptop has two RAM slots and only one is occupied, you can potentially add another compatible 8GB stick.
Using the new RAM listings above, the module alone may cost around Rs. 16,500–18,000, before installation and delivery.
If both slots are occupied by 4GB sticks, you may need to replace one or both modules. Two 8GB sticks can reach 16GB; a single 16GB replacement is another possibility only if the laptop supports that per-slot capacity. They have different costs and channel arrangements.
If your laptop has only one replaceable slot, reaching 16GB can require buying a full 16GB module. The selected advertised examples are around Rs. 30,000–32,500.
So, don't order RAM until you know your laptop's slot arrangement.
Situation 2: You Have 16GB RAM and Want 32GB
If your laptop currently has one 16GB module and an empty slot, you may be able to add a second compatible 16GB module.
Based on the selected listings, that could cost around Rs. 30,000–32,500 for DDR4 memory, before installation and delivery.
But what if your laptop already has two 8GB sticks?
Then both slots are occupied. A common route is to replace them with two compatible 16GB sticks. Using CZone's recorded Rs. 29,990 single-module price, two would total Rs. 59,980, subject to the seller actually having two available and confirming the quote.
A single 32GB module may be another route if the laptop supports it. That can change the channel arrangement and is not automatically the better option.
Before paying that much, ask whether you really need 32GB. For browsing, office work, online classes, and basic programming, 16GB is usually enough.
Situation 3: You Have 8GB RAM, but Your Laptop Has Only One Slot
In this case, you can't simply add another stick. You would have to remove the existing 8GB module and install a compatible 16GB one, paying for the full replacement module.
There is another possibility: some memory may be permanently attached to the motherboard. A laptop can have soldered RAM plus one slot, or entirely soldered memory with no ordinary upgrade path.
This is why checking your exact laptop model matters more than checking RAM prices first.
Is Upgrading from 8GB to 16GB Really Worth It?
Let's make this simple.
| What you do | Is 16GB worth it? |
|---|---|
| YouTube, emails, light browsing | Not always |
| Word, Excel, online classes | Helpful, but 8GB may be enough |
| Many Chrome tabs and multiple apps | Yes, if memory use is high |
| Learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript | Helpful |
| React and Next.js development | Recommended for multitasking and larger projects |
| Photoshop and Figma | Recommended for larger projects |
| Heavy video editing | Helpful, but may not be enough |
| Running Docker or virtual machines | Often useful; larger setups may need more |
| Large 3D projects | You may need 32GB or more, plus a suitable CPU and GPU |
Someone writing articles in Google Docs with a few browser tabs may not notice a big improvement. A developer using VS Code, Chrome, a local server, and other tools together may benefit much more.
More RAM helps most when your existing RAM is running out.
There's another detail worth knowing. Two compatible modules can sometimes run in dual-channel mode, improving memory bandwidth. That may help certain tasks, particularly with integrated graphics.
Still, capacity and compatibility come first. Don't buy two sticks just because someone says dual-channel is always faster. Mixed capacities can use different channel arrangements depending on the memory controller and configuration.
Which Laptop RAM Brand Is Best in Pakistan?
You'll find several brands in Pakistani computer stores. Some are well known, while others focus on budget memory.
Here are the brands we would consider, along with their countries of origin.
| Brand | Brand origin | Laptizo's view |
|---|---|---|
| Kingston | United States | Worth considering for standard laptop memory, including compatible ValueRAM modules |
| Crucial | United States — a Micron brand | A good option when an exact compatible module is available |
| PNY | United States | Worth considering for compatible laptop RAM, with the exact specifications and seller warranty checked |
| Transcend | Taiwan | A practical option with JetRam laptop-memory listings locally |
| ADATA | Taiwan | Worth comparing for price, availability, and warranty |
| Lexar | United States originally; now owned by China's Longsys | An option with DDR4 laptop modules listed at CZone |
| HIKSEMI | China | Consider after checking exact specifications, seller support, and warranty |
The country column describes the brand's origin, not necessarily where every RAM module is manufactured.
PNY is an American brand, and our experience using its RAM has been good. We'd include it on the shortlist when the exact laptop module is compatible and sensibly priced.
Which one would Laptizo choose?
For a regular work or study laptop, we'd first look at Kingston, Crucial, PNY, Transcend, ADATA, or Lexar. But we wouldn't pay a large premium for a brand name alone.
If two modules have the same supported capacity, speed, voltage, and compatible specifications, the one with a better price and reliable seller warranty may be the smarter purchase.
A genuine, compatible module is more important than a famous logo. Expensive gaming RAM is not necessary for a normal business laptop, and desktop gaming DIMMs are not a substitute for laptop SO-DIMMs.
Where Can You Buy Laptop RAM in Pakistan?
We compared four computer retailers that list laptop memory and related components. These are places to research and request quotes, not a ranking of seller reliability.
1. ZAH Computers
ZAH Computers has a physical presence at Techno City Mall in Karachi and advertises delivery across Pakistan. Its memory category includes brands such as HIKSEMI, Lexar, Kingston, and ADATA, covering both laptop and desktop products.
We found a HIKSEMI Hiker 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM advertised at Rs. 16,500, with an in-stock label and a two-year warranty on its product page. That page also asks buyers to confirm RAM prices via WhatsApp because displayed rates can change.
Useful for: Comparing memory brands and contacting a Karachi-based seller about compatibility.
2. PlayTech
PlayTech has a dedicated laptop RAM category, helping separate notebook memory from desktop DIMMs. It lists ADATA, Transcend, Lexar, and other brands.
For example, its category lists Transcend JetRam 16GB DDR4 at Rs. 31,999. Its site-wide notice asks buyers to confirm prices and stock because some products are not updated. Some much cheaper RAM listings are explicitly out of stock.
Useful for: Comparing capacities and advertised specifications, then requesting confirmation of current price, availability, and stick quantity.
Browse PlayTech's laptop RAM category.
3. Mustafa Computers
Mustafa Computers lists memory from brands including Kingston, Transcend, ADATA, and Corsair. A Transcend JetRam 16GB DDR4 page is displayed at Rs. 31,250.
However, its banner explicitly says “ALL MEMORY PRICES ARE VOIDED ON WEBSITE DUE TO GLOBAL SHORTAGE”, alongside a request to confirm prices because of currency fluctuations. Treat those website numbers as displayed research context, not usable purchase quotes.
Useful for: Requesting a fresh written quote for the exact module, rather than budgeting from the voided website amount.
Browse Mustafa Computers' RAM collection.
4. CZone (Computer Zone)
CZone has separate categories for laptop DDR4 and DDR5 memory. Its DDR4 section lists Lexar modules in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities.
The Lexar 16GB DDR4 product page displayed Rs. 29,990, an in-stock label, and a one-year warranty during our check. Confirm current stock quantity, compatibility, and the seller's return/exchange conditions before ordering.
Useful for: Comparing laptop-memory listings with clearly stated capacities and specifications.
Browse CZone's memory category.
Which store is the most reliable?
We can't fairly name one store as the most reliable based only on website listings. A good-looking website doesn't establish genuine products, smooth warranty claims, or helpful after-sales support.
Check recent customer feedback, confirm the warranty in writing, and ask what happens if the module doesn't work in your laptop. If possible, have it installed and tested before leaving the shop.
How to Check Which RAM Your Laptop Supports
A laptop that uses DDR4 cannot simply accept DDR5. They use different physical designs and electrical standards.
Here's what to check.
Step 1: Check your current RAM
On Windows:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Performance.
- Open Memory.
- Check installed RAM, memory speed, and displayed slot information.
Task Manager may not show every detail accurately on every laptop. Check whether the total includes soldered memory, rather than assuming every gigabyte is in a replaceable stick.
Step 2: Find your exact laptop model
Look for the model number on the bottom of the laptop or in Windows System Information. Then check the manufacturer's official specifications or service manual.
RAM Compatibility Checklist
Step 3: Choose compatible SO-DIMM memory
Most laptops with replaceable DDR4 or DDR5 memory use a smaller module called SO-DIMM. Desktop DIMM or UDIMM memory is not a substitute. Models using soldered or other memory form factors need their own model-specific checks.
Buying a module advertised at 3200MHz doesn't guarantee the laptop will operate it at that speed. The processor, motherboard, firmware, and other installed memory can limit the operating rate. Match the actual supported specifications rather than choosing by speed or brand alone.
Step 4: Confirm compatibility with the seller
Send the seller your exact laptop model and current RAM details. Ask them to confirm the module's compatibility and clarify what happens if it doesn't work.
A few minutes of checking can save you from buying the wrong memory.
What About DDR5 RAM?
DDR5 is used in many newer laptops, but it is not an upgrade you can make to a DDR4-only laptop. If your laptop supports DDR4, buy compatible DDR4 memory.
Selected DDR5 laptop listings we observed included the following.
| RAM | Store | Displayed price | Listing checked | Price / stock note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Transcend 16GB DDR5 4800MHz (opens in a new tab) | Mustafa Computers | Rs. 49,400 | Website price voided — request a fresh quote | |
| Transcend 16GB DDR5 4800MHz (opens in a new tab) | PlayTech | Rs. 50,999 | Confirm price, stock, and module/kit quantity | |
| Transcend 16GB DDR5 5600MHz (opens in a new tab) | PlayTech | Rs. 69,999 | Confirm price, stock, and module/kit quantity | |
| Lexar 16GB DDR5 5600MHz (opens in a new tab) | CZone | Rs. 71,000 | Listed in stock — confirm current price and quantity | |
| Transcend 32GB DDR5 5600MHz (opens in a new tab) | PlayTech | Rs. 117,999 | Confirm price, stock, and module/kit quantity |
These are selected advertised amounts, not a market average.
Laptizo Insights: Should You Upgrade RAM or Buy a New Laptop?
After reviewing the advertised prices, there's an important question:
Is this upgrade worth the money for my particular laptop?
Imagine you own an older Core i5 8th Gen laptop with 8GB RAM. Adding a compatible second 8GB stick for around Rs. 17,000 may help it keep more applications open.
If reaching 16GB requires replacing a module for around Rs. 30,000 or more, the decision becomes harder. Replacing two modules to reach 32GB can cost around Rs. 60,000 before installation.
At that point, compare the upgrade cost with a newer used laptop. Our guide to whether an 8th Gen Core i5 is still worth buying in 2026 explains where that older platform still makes sense and where it struggles.
Here's our advice:
- The laptop works well apart from running out of RAM: An upgrade can make sense.
- It also has a weak battery, damaged screen, slow processor, or other problems: Consider the total repair and upgrade bill before investing more.
- It still uses a mechanical hard drive: An SSD upgrade may make a bigger difference to everyday responsiveness than extra RAM.
- You already have 16GB and rarely use it all: Save your money. More RAM won't automatically make the laptop faster.
These recommendations are based on advertised Pakistani RAM prices and general hardware requirements, not Laptizo lab benchmarks. You can compare laptop listings, use the Laptop Finder Quiz, and follow our used-laptop inspection guide before deciding to replace the machine.
Last Thoughts
Upgrading laptop RAM can extend the life of an older machine, especially if it has 8GB and regularly runs out of memory.
But it is not always a small expense. In the new DDR4 laptop-memory listings we reviewed, an extra 8GB module was around Rs. 17,000, while a single 16GB example started at Rs. 29,990. Current prices, stock, module quantity, installation, and warranty still need seller confirmation.
Don't upgrade just because someone says 16GB or 32GB is better. Upgrade because your work actually needs it.
Compare prices, check compatibility, and confirm the terms. A good laptop upgrade should save you money, not become an expensive mistake.
