About this laptop
The Latitude 5400 is Dell's entry point into the 5000 series and, unlike the 5420 or 7420, it is still built on the 2018 Whiskey Lake platform. It is therefore a direct generational sibling of the Latitude 5490 we list at Rs. 51,000 — same Intel Core i5/i7 8th Gen architecture, same chassis family, same 14-inch footprint — and the choice between the two comes down to the exact processor SKU and the asking price rather than to a generation gap.
What makes the 5400 worth listing at all is its upgrade path. It carries two DDR4 SODIMM slots and an M.2 2280 NVMe bay, and unlike the soldered X1 Carbon or the premium XPS machines, both are user-replaceable. The 8GB of memory in this unit is a starting point: adding a 16GB module costs a few thousand rupees in Pakistan and turns the laptop into a machine with real headroom for browser-heavy work, Office, and light development.
The 2018 Latitude platform's real strength is battery life. Dell fitted a high-capacity 68 Wh battery to the 5400, and because the machine is also lighter than the 5420, this is the configuration in our catalogue that holds up best for a full working day away from a socket — a genuine advantage for field sales, teaching, and anyone who travels domestically.
The display is a 14-inch Full HD LED panel at 1920x1080. Note that Dell's 'FHD LED' wording does not distinguish between the matte anti-glare TN and IPS variants, so confirm the panel type if accurate colour matters to you; the IPS versions are noticeably better. Because Iqra Traders publishes only the headline specification, verify the exact i7 SKU — the 5400 shipped with the i7-8650U as well as the i7-8550U — and check the battery health report before paying.
At Rs. 47,000 with an 8th Gen Core i7, this is the best battery life and upgradeability in the Dell range at this budget. Against the Rs. 51,000 Latitude 5490 it is the better buy only if you can confirm the processor; against the Rs. 51,000 Latitude 5420 it is cheaper but three generations behind. The HP EliteBook 845 G7 in our catalogue covers similar ground with a brighter panel, and the ThinkPad T480s at the same Rs. 47,000 wins decisively on keyboard and build quality.

Pros & cons
What we like
- Best battery life of any laptop in our catalogue at this budget
- RAM and storage are both user-upgradeable, unlike the soldered premium models
- Rs. 4,000 cheaper than the Latitude 5490 for a broadly equivalent machine
- VGA and full-size RJ-45 Ethernet are increasingly rare and useful in offices
- Light enough for daily commuting at 1.44 kg
Worth knowing
- 8th Gen processor is past its prime in 2026
- 256GB SSD is small for a machine bought for long-term use
- Dell does not specify whether the FHD LED panel is TN or IPS — confirm before buying
- No fingerprint reader on most configurations of this generation
- 256GB SSD plus 8GB RAM means upgrades are effectively required within a year for heavy use
