Lenovo ThinkPad T480s

The T480s is the thin-and-light member of Lenovo's T-series, and it is a distinctly different machine from the chunky ThinkPad E14 we list for Rs. 72,000. Where the E14 is a modern budget ThinkPad, the T480s is a 2018-era premium ultrabook that has aged into our value bracket — a magnesium and carbon-fibre chassis, a 12mm-thin profile, and a 1.14 kg weight that still feels like a premium notebook in the hand.

Performance comes from the 8th Gen Intel Core i7, most commonly the i7-8550U, a 4-core, 8-thread Whiskey Lake part with a 4.0 GHz boost clock. It is a capable office, browsing, and light-development machine, though it is three generations behind the Core i5-1145G7 in our Dell Latitude 5420 listing at a comparable price. Because Iqra Traders publishes only the headline specification, confirm the exact i7 SKU before paying — the T480s also shipped with the i7-8650U.

The display is the T480s's strongest argument over the E14. This 14-inch Full HD IPS panel at 1920x1080 has noticeably better colour reproduction and viewing angles than the 250-nit TN anti-glare screen in the E14, and it is paired with the low-ghosting panel option Lenovo offered on this generation. For a machine this old, that is a genuinely useful upgrade.

The keyboard is, as always, the reason to buy a ThinkPad. Two SODIMM slots mean the 8GB of memory here is a starting point rather than a ceiling, and unlike the soldered X1 Carbon you can add a 16GB module for a few thousand rupees and keep the laptop relevant for years. Storage is a single M.2 2280 NVMe bay, which is more than enough for a 256GB drive and a later upgrade to 512GB or 1TB.

At Rs. 47,000 the trade-off is honest: the 8th Gen chip is past its prime, the 256GB SSD is small by current standards, and the seller offers only a 2-month warranty rather than the 60-day checking warranty on our Dell listings. What you get in return is a chassis, keyboard, and screen that most Rs. 47,000 laptops cannot match — and one of the lightest 14-inch ThinkPads ever made.
